Sample Interview Questions and Answers

Question 1: How would you navigate and read mapping directions to transport staff with visual disabilities to various work locations?

To effectively navigate and read mapping directions, I would first ensure that my vehicle is equipped with a GPS system or maps that are compatible with the vehicle's infotainment system. I would also have a backup plan in place, such as having physical copies of the maps or knowing the route by memory. When reading mapping directions, I would pay close attention to any visual cues, such as road signs and markings, and ensure that I understand the turns and changes in direction required to reach our destination. If I'm unsure about any part of the route, I would consult with my supervisor or colleagues to confirm the correct path. Additionally, I would be mindful of any potential hazards or traffic conditions that may affect our journey and adjust our route accordingly.

Question 2: How would you efficiently search and scan print documents to locate specific content for a staff member who is blind?

To efficiently search and scan print documents, I would first familiarize myself with the document's layout and structure. I would then use my knowledge of braille or tactile graphics, if applicable, to quickly locate the desired information. If the document is in printed format, I would use a combination of visual scanning and manual searching techniques to find the relevant content. For example, I might start by looking for headings or titles that indicate the location of the desired information, then use a finger or stylus to scan the surrounding text and locate the specific section or paragraph. I would also consider using technology, such as a document scanner or reading software, to aid in my search if necessary.

Question 3: How would you handle a situation where a staff member with visual disabilities requires assistance with lifting or carrying items due to mobility aids?

If a staff member requires assistance with lifting or carrying items due to mobility aids, I would first assess the situation and determine the safest course of action. If necessary, I would communicate with my supervisor or colleagues to ensure that we have sufficient resources and support to safely complete the task. When assisting with lifting or carrying items, I would prioritize proper body mechanics and ergonomics to avoid straining myself or putting unnecessary pressure on the staff member's mobility aids. For example, I might use a dolly or other assistive device to redistribute the weight of the item, or work in conjunction with multiple staff members to ensure that the task is completed safely and efficiently.
