Closing arguments for the trial of Raul Benitez-Santana, accused of killing Washington State Patrol Trooper Chris Gadd in a crash last March, may conclude this week. At 33, Benitez-Santana is charged with vehicular homicide and assault after investigators stated he was doing 112 mph when hitting Gadd's patrol cruiser on Interstate 5 near Marysville. In court on Monday, jurors viewed images of Gadd's injuries and heard testimony from a medical examiner. The defense began calling witnesses, including the woman Benitez-Santana went on a date with the night before the crash. She reported seeing him consume around two beers and a shot that evening. As debate continues, Benitez-Santana remains accused despite his lawyer attempting to drop charges by contacting immigration officials about his violation of Washington's sanctuary state laws. A decision is expected at least until June 6. 🕊️🚨
